10 key practice at the till
You have a 60-second shift at the till. Numbers print on the receipt: type each one and press Enter to ring it up. The number pad on screen lights up the next key in the colour of the finger that presses it.
Six lessons follow the way the number pad is taught: the home keys 4 5 6 (the bump is on 5), then 7 8 9, 1 2 3, 0 and the decimal point, prices, and the maths keys + - * /.
No number pad? Most laptops and Chromebooks do not have one, so the number row above the letters works too. The results show your keystrokes per hour (KPH), the speed data entry jobs measure.
Skills practiced
- Touch typing on the number pad
- Typing prices and decimals accurately
- Building speed for data entry
Questions
What is KPH?
Keystrokes per hour: how many keys you press correctly in an hour at your current speed. It is how 10 key speed is usually measured.
My number pad types arrows. What is wrong?
Num Lock is off. Press the Num Lock key once and the pad types numbers again. The game shows a reminder when this happens.
Can I play without a number pad?
Yes. The number row above the letters counts too.
